Missions
Missions are the heartbeat of the church. It gives life to those living in the United States and around the world. Jesus showed us the way in serving the least of those among us. Jesus was global-local in all He did. We seek to show kindness, mercy, and compassion. We serve with joy to bring hope, restoration and new life. Pat Reynolds has led our congregation for many years, guiding us in service to others. Pat started coming to the First Free Methodist Church in 1967. God put within Pat’s heart a deep loving spirit that shows mercy and kindness to all God’s creation. She embodies missions. She is always there to champion those who seek to fulfill the Great Commission of Christ. Her most recent project in 2024 was for the Philippines. She was hoping to raise $1,500, but actually raised $3,170 to help with vegetable fields and needed lighting for a local pastor in the Philippines. Pat is a true, loyal servant who is generous, and passionate for people to come to Christ. We are grateful to Pat for leading the way.
Many mission projects been accomplished with her involvement. Here are just a few. NHCC has taken four mission teams to Kenya, Africa that included construction projects, teaching pastors and school teachers and working with children in some of the poorest and darkest areas. Two trips were taken to Israel-Jordan providing support to refugees, pastors and other Christians. She made trips to Haiti, Spain, Europe, and West Virginia to help an elderly lady have a ramp constructed on her home. Under her leadership, the church has supported Liberty Life Savers (a program for moms and unborn babies), sponsoring orphans and other underprivileged children around the world, food and animal projects, work opportunities for women to be self-sufficient, help for the displaced women, Soup it Up on Tuesdays (hosted at NHCC), local emergencies through Helping Hands and other causes.
Kenya
NHCC has taken 4 trips to Kenya. They include NHCC people, but also pastors from sister churches. The first trip involved helping build a small classroom structure in the bush in Wamba. A second trip involved helping to fund and build a church building in Londiani. A third trip involved building an outside dining hall in Eldoret. A fourth trip involved pastoral training in Eldoret, Nyakach and Mombasa.
What a privilege it’s been to meet the Kenyan believers who have little materially, but are rich in the faith.
Israel & Jordan
NHCC has taken 3 trips to Israel and plans on another trip in 2027. Groups averaging 40 travel to Israel and Jordan during October – November. Highlights are the Western Wall at night, going out on the Sea of Galilee, getting baptized in the Jordan River, sharing in communion at the Garden Tomb, the Old City, and Free Methodist works in Marka and Hashmi, Jordan.
Global-Local Church
Over the years, the church has become a servant-driven congregation. It became our DNA. The 2023 State of the Work summarized the global-local ministries of the church.
Globally NHCC: Helps support Missionary Families: Josh and Suzy Fajardo in Spain; Thom and Sherry Cahill in Thailand; Thad and Nikki Roller in Columbia. Card Ministry to Missionaries; sponsor approximately 24 children around the world; Days for Girls Ministry; Impact Middle East Churches; Animal Project in the Congo, Church Development Network (CDN) and special disaster offerings. Nine (9) additional countries/flags were funded in 2023, bringing our total to 55 out of 195 (28.2%).
In 2021, NHCC committed to a 40 year goal to “touch” each of the 195 countries in the world. $500 (or ministry equivalent if someone goes to a country) is given to a credible organization for spreading the Gospel. At the end of 2023, we’re at 55 countries (28.2%). A flag is then hung in The Harby Center representing the Countries served.
World Ministry
Bishop David Roller and his wife Yvonne came to Walton to share about Ministering in a Multi-Cultural World: Understanding Your Neighbor.
Called and Sent
Pastor Bob Wilkie and Pastor Bob Lozier answered the call to ministry and became ordained elders on July 22, 2018 at Annual Conference. Mary Wilkie and Kay Lozier both were deaconesses at NHCC. All 4 served in key ministry roles. Pastor Wilkie focused on visitation. Mary served through prayer and the prayer shawl ministry. Pastor Lozier headed up Men’s Ministry and Kay was Women’s Ministry Leader. Pastor Lozier and Kay received an appointment to The Journey Church (Free Methodist) at Horton Brook. Pastor Wilkie and Mary went to serve at the Plymouth Church (independent congregation) near Walton. We are proud of these 4 following God’s call on their lives!
One other pastoral couple, Mike and Sandy Jansen, who were already Free Methodist, worshiped at NHCC for years. They eventually moved to a church in Coshocton, Ohio. God has used them mightily to advance His Kingdom!
